New Singles

I've given up trying to review every single I like that comes out! Sorry! Probably best to back to the Music Index.

Atari Teenage Riot: Sick To Death: it's been a while since Alec Empire has release anything as ATR (about 3 years I think). But once again this single provides an incredible mix of hard-core techno with punk!
Chemical Brothers:Block Rockin' Beats: This is another damn fine single from the Chemical Brothers, and the 2nd (Setting Sun being the 1st) from their new album. To be honest though it does sound similar to most of their other songs, which is good if you like them but it won't win them any new fans.
Faith No More: Ashes to Ashes: They're back, they haven't split up, they've got another new guitarist, and a new album Album of the Year, from which this is the first single! The CD single is a 2 parter. CD one contains:
1. Ashes to Ashes
2. Light up and let go (Not on new album)
3. Collision (Opening song on Album Of the Year)
4. Ashes to Ashes - `DJ Icey & Maestro mix`
CD two contains:
1. Ashes to Ashes
2. The Big Kahuna (Not on new album)
3. Mouth to Mouth (almost Mr Bungle-esque!)
4. Ashes to Ashes - `Hardknox alternative mix`
The title track is not bad, not up to usual Faith No More standards, but Light Up and Let Go, and Mouth to Mouth , are damn fine, probably only worth buying both for bigger Faith No More fans.
Helmet:Exactly What You Wanted: 3 great songs on this CD, but you'll probably only agree with that if you liked the last Helmet album. That is to say there's not a great deal of change which to some people may be a good thing, but then with this being the first single off the new album, maybe they decided to stick with the 'nice and safe" approach, so as not to scare of the old fans!
Orbital: The Saint: This is the title track taken from the new Saint movie. It's actually more or less an "Orbitalised" cover of the theme from the TV series, with the extra track, titled sinner, being an even bigger reworking of the original music. Although it doesn't sound like typical Orbital, you can still hear it's them from a mile off, although it does retain the TV theme quality of the original. Quit good, but not as good as the reworking of the Mission Impossible music for the movie!
The Prodigy: Firestarter : My first impression of this was that it's not as good as stuff from Music For The Jilted Generation, but after a few more listens it has grown on me. Features more singing than a lot of their stuff!
The Prodigy :Breathe: Another single which has grown on me loads and now I can't wait till Summer when their new album comes out!
Rammstein:Engel: Latest single from the forthcoming album by this German industrial group who have recently found a bit of international fame due to 2 songs appearing on the Lost Highways movie sound-track.
This song is not as heavy as previous offerings since it also offers some sweet singing as well as the industrial sound! Also on this CD single are 1 more new song, the original version of the song Rammstein, and 2 Eskimos and Egypt re-mixes. Both of these are brilliant and add a more "techno-esque" feel to the music.
The Reverend Horton Heat / Supersuckers double A side
:Caliénte/400bucks:Caliénte is written by Supersuckers and 400 bucks by the Reveren Horton Heat, but bothe songs are performed by both artists. official Reverend Horton Heat web site.
Sabrina Setlur :Du Liebst mich nicht: This woman has a very powerful voice, but as well as using the harshness, of the German language she can also sings as sweet as a bird. The CD single is 50 minutes long, and features various styles of re-mix and an instrumental. Kind of like a non superficial German singing En Vogue!
Der WolfOh Shit - Frau Schmidt: When I first heard this song, I knew I had to buy it, to listen at my leisure to fully understand it! It's a very funny German pop rap song about a guy who hates his teacher Frau Schmidt and her classes, goes to a party, meets a girl, goes to bed with her, and in walks Frau Schmidt. The chorus is so catchy, kind of similar to the sort of song sung at an English football match!
