Flaming Lips

London Brixton Academy 3rd October 1995

Flaming Lips were the first on stage. They were nothing particularly different but what they did, (Alternative/punky rock) they did pretty well. Suffered a bit from the usual sound quality not being quite what it could be for a support band. However they did have lots of pretty fairy lights surrounding there amps!

Moby was the next on stage. The 2 drum kits said that this was not going to be an ordinary live performance. I had only heard a few songs by Moby before, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this techno/dance maestro, was part of the support bill, but what surprised me more was to see that the live band also does some hard-core/punk numbers that the likes of Quicksand, Helmet would be proud of! One minute the mosh pit was moshing then it was raving, well it should have been but some people didn't seem to be able to handle the transition between styles of music from one band, however I loves it, both the music and the dumbfounded looks on people's faces! Finished with a cover of a Hendrix song but sadly I've forgotten which!

Anthony came on stage wearing a French maids costume, Flea in some big baggy shorts and Dave in some trousers that Prince (I mean Symbol, AFKAP whatever) would wear and did there usual opening number Give it Away, then went straight in Suck My Kiss, then Aeroplane. As one would assume, most of the set came from the new album , but there were old classics as well such as Me and My Friends, Backwoods, Higher Ground. The atmosphere was truly amazing throughout the gig, I was thoroughly impressed with last years Reading performance but this was even better!
